"I've never been particularly literary, although in my younger days, I spent a lot of time reading, especially books such as those written by Stephen King, James Herbert and the like. Nowadays, I don't have the time nor the patience to even attempt to read a book.
About 15 years ago, I attempted to write a novel. I had the idea, I had the characters drawn up (on paper, by description, not actually drawn,) and the plot was planned out. But day to day family life impacted that quite heavily so that got placed on the back-burner. I still have the first chapter lying around somewhere but the plot is now so out of date, it's not even worth revisiting the concept.
And a decade ago, with very little drama experience or qualification, I managed an amateur drama group and directed a play. I say directed, it was something of a joint effort but I was the person on the 'casting couch,' running rehearsals and generally doing much of the backstage stuff such as props, costumes and of course, marketing.

But now, here I am with this new found interest in creating comedy poems. That all started when I created a comedy themed rhyme about our camping trip to Cornwall in 2023 (which you can read about in "The Cornish Chronicle" on the In-Tents Vacations page.) I developed a real taste for this type of writing and went on to pen "Carnival Things," which was a celebration of the success of the 2024 Burwell Carnival, an event which I was part of as a volunteer, committee member and steward. This seemed to gather momentum locally via Social Media, and as a result, I found myself attending monthly Spoken Word events in the village. This has spurred me on to write a selection of similar poems but all drawn from a wide variety of situations (check out the Generally Random page for evidence of this.)
Please feel free to browse my creations and I hope that maybe they might inspire someone else to start writing.
Oh, and don't forget to check out my new page, "Getting Hitched," which continues on from where our camping exploits, as detailed in "In-Tents Vacations" left off.
